Astoria Lions Assist In Trash Pickup
(Argus on 6/5/2002)

The Astoria Lions Club participated in the May 19 all-town cleanup day as one of their annual community service projects.
The Lions Club, along with village employees and administration, have held the cleanup day biannually for several years.  This year, the Lions were joined by several students from Astoria School District.
The Lions Club would like to thank Jared Trone, Brian Bridges and Nick Shawgo for their help on May 18, and Two Rivers FS for the use of their property to establish a dumping site. The business provided a concrete runway to dump into so that city workers could use an end loader to fill dumpsters. The usual dumping site could not be accessed due to wet weather.
It was reported that seven dumpsters were filled at a cost to the village of $540 per dumpster, or $3,780.
It has been suggested that to show appreciation to the Village of Astoria and to the Lions Club, citizens may make a contribution toward the Habitat for Humanity project in Astoria. The house will be built two doors east of the Dairy Dipper on land donated by Bob and Barbara Walters.
The Astoria Lions Club have submitted a grant to obtain 50 percent of the house paid for thru the Lions of Illinois Foundation. The local Club must raise $10,000 toward the project. The house will be the home of Michael and Dawn Glover and family.
Please help the Astoria Lions raise this amount and at the same time show your appreciation to the Village and the Lions Club.
